Search Engine Marketing: Off-Site Elements
I’m going to assume that you understand enough about search engine marketing and social media that you already get what you have to do in order to optimize your pages to rank first in search engines. When you’ve finished your on-site elements, now it’s time to have a short look at the off-site elements which can be done so that you can improve your ranking on Google.
Off-site elements are another critical piece of search engine marketing. As you are already aware, your ranking on Google is critically important; if you are on the first page, your website is going to receive a vastly greater number of visitors than if you were on the tenth page. Because of this, everybody who runs a site for anything at all should try to become an expert on every aspect of search engine marketing.
As always, you have to keep in mind that your keywords are the most important part. In case you aren’t familiar with the jargon, “keywords” are the terms you want to be found under on search engines. You need to compile a list of the keywords you’re currently going after as well as anything you want to try to rank for later. Without knowing your keeping’s, you’ll never be able to accomplish anything when it comes to search engine marketing.
The crux of any SEO strategy should be getting backlinks, which is the industry word for links to your website. The reason that Google was able to get where they are now is because their search engine had the lowest amount of spam: all of the other engines merely ranked pages based on the words that appeared in the text (which was insanely easy to manipulate), whereas Google also factored in what other websites were saying about you, thereby creating a more perfect result page. Of course, by taking away this form of manipulation has made SEO a much more complicated process.
So, you’ve definitely asking yourself how you actually acquire these backlinks. There really isn’t a easy answer to that question, even though it clearly is a valid one. What you are going to have to do is simply ask people for them. Offer to write guests posts on blogs that you read. Submit your website to however many directories you can find. Use social media. Create content that is so exciting and unique that people will want to link to it so that they can show it to their friends. At the end of the day, this is going to be a herculean task, but if you really want to rank first on search engines, it’s what you must do.
