As in any other business, there are a lot of new words and there are shorts for a lot of them. I will try to give you a short explanation for some of the most important words and shorts.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

This one you will come across on a daily basis. It is by far the most used word in the business. Generally it refers to the way that we make our sites as search engine friendly as possible. It is a way to get your site high in the search engine result pages. As a rule we split SEO into two separate things, On and Off page Optimization.

On page

On page optimization is basically a way for us to let the search engines know what our page is about. If you do the on page optimization right, the search engines will know what you are talking about before they even start reading you content. The key to getting good optimization is using your chosen keyword or keywords in all the important elements of your page.

Off-page optimization

Off page optimization is usually just about one thing: backlinks. If we want to be extremely precise it is all about keyword anchored backlinks. While you may not know this, keyword anchored backlinks makes up about 90% of how your sites ranks with the different keywords.

MMO – Used as a short for Make Money Online

This term refers to the way that you can make money on the internet. It includes all means, like affiliate marketing, Adsense, e-mail marketing, click based surfing and even games such as poker and blackjack.

SERPs ” Search engine result pages

These are the pages that the search engines provide you when you search for a term. If you are working with a site it is obviously good to be as high in the SERPs as you can for as many keywords as possible.

Keyword – The word or term that internet users are searching for

Keywords are what makes a search engine work. You have to know how to get you site ranking high for keywords that actually have traffic. The more keywords you rank for, the better.

Long tail keywords ” Longer versions of keywords.

Your keywords with added words. An example: if your keyword is houses, a long tail of it can be houses with a view or houses on the beach.

Backlinks

Backlinks are simply links that points to your site from other sites on the internet.

PR – Page Rank

PR is a system that Google use to tell how important they think a site is. The Pagerank scale starts at zero. If a site has a rank of zero it is basically unimportant in Google’s eyes. If it has a rank of 10 on the other hand, it is VERY important. Just a handful of sites actually has a PR of ten.
